It was a little rainy the last few days, but it might be a little prep for what the game could be like on Monday. It’s not always going to be pretty in football games. You saw last week Chicago played Houston in a muddy game. They like playing in games like that so we’ll be ready. It’s all good preparation for Monday.

We’re happy everything is going better for our coach with his health. Coach Harbaugh underwent a minor procedure on Thursday and came right back to work, even on the same day as the procedure. It shows that he’s a team player. When there’s something wrong with your health and all you can think about is your team, football, while you’re not here, you know that you’re a really a good head coach. We’re glad he’s OK and back on the football field.

The Bears announced that Jason Campbell is starting this week and we’ll be prepared for that on Monday. He’s a veteran. He was a good quarterback for the Washington Redskins, I don’t think he got his fair shake there. Then he went to Oakland, was pretty good for them, but then he got injured. He’s eager to get out there and show teams around the National Football League that he’s a backup now, but he can still come out and play football. He does have a big arm and he will use his feet to run around.

I’m feeling all right, not as bad as last week – not quite as bad. Still some things I have to work on to get better in treatment but it’s definitely not as bad as last week.

The only experience I’ve had physically that was similar to last week’s game is my rookie year when I had some pretty good back pain. That was tough. You lose some of your focus because you’re thinking about the pain – whenever you make a move it’s hurting.

The fact that I had a big game is based off the coverage – it always is. We got very favorable coverage, some Cover 1, Cover 3, some Cover 2, but we were able to exploit it more when they were playing single high. At the same time, the running game was working like crazy. They were running the heck out of the ball, Mikel and Joique. Those things contributed to it.

Going into half time I’m sitting there like, ‘dang I can get 200 yards this game’, but at the same time I’m thinking that our running game is really killing them right now, so I figured we would run the ball to kill the clock. They did a great job of protecting the ball and gaining yards – big chunks, too.

On what he did on his time off during the bye week: “During the bye, the day we got off, after meetings, I flew up to Toronto and hung out with some friends up there that I wasn’t able to see for a while. For the weekend, Friday through Sunday, I hung out back home in gold ole Lebanon, Pa. I saw some family and some friends.”

On if it’s good to get away during the season: “It’s definitely helpful. I get a message once or twice a week every week and my message therapist didn’t know that we had a bye and, when I came back, she had told me without me telling her how much different my body felt. She realized how much I wasn’t beat up and that’s when she asked, ‘Did you guys play this week?’ I said, ‘No.’ She said, ‘I could tell.’ So it’s definitely helpful for your body.”

Jared Odrick enjoys his time in his hometown of Lebanon, Pa.

On if it’s easier to come back off a bye when you’re facing a divisional opponent like the Jets this week: “Regardless of who we’re playing, you come back motivated and prepared because we’re in a position to do some damage. That’s the main motivator.”

On how important the Jets game is this week: “It’s a very important game and it’s obviously a division game. It’s a game that we plan on going up there and playing some hard-nosed football.”

Hey Bills fans!

You never want to go into a bye week with a loss and have to sit a week and think about it, so this week means everything to us and to me. We know we’re up against a tough challenge in the Titans, but with the preparation we’ve put in this week we hope we can come out with a win and head in to the bye with a winning record.

For me, the bye week is definitely a chance to get away. I like to recharge at home, spend some quality time with family and catch up with old friends. At the same time though, it’s a chance to relax and prepare for the long run we are trying to make in the final half of the season.

The week off should also help me get back to 100 percent with my shoulder rehab. It’s not there yet, but it’s getting very close. I’m starting to feel like I’m getting back to my old self. I’ve been pleased with all the aspects of my game that the coaches have asked me to do – I’ve been able to deliver but I’ve got to continue to improve each and every day and not get complacent

Until next time.

On participating in a Halloween giveaway this week and how important it is for players to participate in community events: “I think it’s really important. When a player wants to show an effort to be a part of the community and get involved with people’s lives that are in the area, whether it’s young kids or full grown adults, it’s very important. This past event at Party City in Davie was great to be a part of. To help kids live out some good fun times that are coming here for Halloween, it’s just fun. I remember that I got to enjoy those and it’s something that my mom helped me do and I was in a situation where I could afford to buy some costumes and make it a special night. If we can do that with other kids who are a little underprivileged and might not get that opportunity, it’s definitely worth it.”

On if he has any plans for Halloween this year: “Not right now, it’s still too far away. Maybe I’ll have to dress up or something, but I don’t know yet.”

On his favorite costumes from the past: “I was trying to think of what I did. In college, I didn’t do anything too crazy. When I was a kid, I always remember being a vampire or a pirate, the usual stuff. Nothing too crazy.”

On his favorite holiday: “Well, it used to be Thanksgiving and Christmas, but now it’s probably Easter or New Year’s. What I liked about Thanksgiving and Christmas was the seasonal time of the year, especially Thanksgiving with it being Fall, just the color changes that Pennsylvania brings. There’s not much of that down here plus, now that I’m playing professional football, in Miami, I’m just away from my family and I don’t get to see my family as much during the season, which is Thanksgiving and Christmas. But I do get to see them more in the offseason which is Easter and sometimes New Year’s, which is my birthday.”

(Paul Sancya / Associated Press)

Being on a three-game losing streak doesn’t change our mentality, though we have a new motto within the receivers room: “No more Mr. Nice Guy.”

We need to turn up our intensity a little bit, especially in our position. We’re not playing bad by any means, but we can turn up our intensity and make more plays happen to help out in the run game. That’s kind of what we’re focusing on right now.

Finding a rhythm on offense has been tough because we’re seeing a lot of different coverages. We have to adapt to it. That’s our job. We can’t just let defenses keep doing what they’re doing, or they’re going to keep on doing it. It’s a copycat league — we have to come up with something to answer it. So if defenses want to play two-man or double me, somebody else has to step up and make plays.

I’m looking forward to going up against the Eagles’ defense on Sunday. This might be a chance when we get quite a bit of one-on-one coverages in a game, which we haven’t seen since early last year, really. It’s going to be good for us at the receiver positions, tight ends, everybody that’s touching the ball on offense has the chance to have a good game …

Last Sunday, we played the Steelers. After wide receiver Antonio Brown made the comment about me being a candy bar, there was more attention on me. It was really my first experience being at the center of the Philly media’s attention like that. I didn’t really pay attention to it, though. It was hyped up more than people thought it was. During the game, he didn’t say anything. The first play I hit him and we were talking, but after that it was nothing.

This week we’re playing the Lions at home. Calvin Johnson has been playing in the slot a lot, so I’ll be matched up against him. So far this season I’ve also faced Victor Cruz and Larry Fitzgerald. There is a lot of talk around Calvin, but I’m not really focused on him so much as just what they do as a receiving corps. We’re basically just playing our scheme, like I say every week.

“Megatron” is a great player, but no matter what, I think if you do what you’re supposed to do, a lot of that can be neutralized. As a defensive back, you have to stay in his hip pocket and challenge him every play. We’re just focused on what we need to do as defensive backs to be good …

On Wednesday, Steelers receiver Antonio Brown called me a candy bar. It’s probably the lamest joke directed at me I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t think even he can go into detail about what it meant.

I found out about it after my first meeting on Thursday. My phone was blowing up and all my teammates were saying, “What? He called you out?” So I found out through social media and text messages. But I don’t think that’s a real diss to me in any type of way.

I’m a candy eater, but not like chocolate bars or anything like that. I’ll be whatever he wants me to be this week until Sunday.

I don’t care what people say about me. The one thing about me is I never lose confidence in myself. No matter if I get beat or what, I’m going to come back the next play. Brown saying I’m a candy bar is not going to intimidate me in any way. If anything, it’ll add fuel to the fire.

Sunday night was our primetime game against the Giants. I had mixed feelings about my play. As a corner, you never want to let anybody catch any balls against you. But we got the win and I felt like I made a couple plays on Victor Cruz and he made a couple plays on me. In the end, the ‘W’ is all that matters.

I’ve been against three Pro Bowl receivers in the past three weeks, so it’s definitely not been an easy transition to the NFL. The good thing is that I think it definitely speeds up my development. I still got a chance to compete against some of the best receivers in the league. When you’re in the moment and grinding, you’re doing everything you can to make a play.

It’s definitely not college. A lot of times in college, if receivers weren’t getting the ball they’d take the play off if they knew it wasn’t coming. But here all of us have to mind our P’s and Q’s. You can never really tell when a player will be getting the ball, so that’s when your technique is very important …

(Kevin Terrell/Associated Press)

On it being breast cancer awareness month and if he wears anything pink during games to support the cause: “I won’t wear pink cleats because I have specific cleats that I wear due to my feet, but I will wear pink gloves, pink accessories. I don’t wear too many accessories, but I’ll wear a pink chin strap and a few other things, definitely, to be a part of the cause. All throughout college, I wore an organ wristband to support kidney cancer, which was for the Penn State Live for Life support group. We would raise money through doing a lift-a-thon. So I have no problem supporting any positive cause during a game.”

Jared Odrick has some fun in the Dolphins’ locker room.

On if the cause has any special significance to him: “Not directly in terms of my mom or my grandmother or anybody, knock on wood and thank God. People throughout the family have come in contact with cancer, not just breast cancer but all types. You never shy away for a cause like this, and it’s a simple thing to wear. Wearing a piece of equipment that can bring awareness to something like that is definitely something I’m proud to be a part of.”

On if he’s ever been in back-to-back overtime games like in the past two weeks against the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals: “Back-to-back overtime games? Only in little-kid basketball back when I was a kid. Really don’t think I’ve been in consecutive overtime games. I really didn’t think about it that way. It was just extended, long games to me. You’re never thinking about, ‘Man, we’re playing a second overtime game.’ You’re just trying to win a game.”

So we’re 3-1 right now, and that’s good, but we aren’t satisfied with where we are. We’re putting in a lot of work to keep getting better. We need to keep improving to accomplish what we want to accomplish. If we can keep improving, we’ll get better and rack up some wins along the way. But the challenges get tougher including this week against a really good New Orleans team.

Philip Rivers enjoys a light moment with his son on the practice field.

When I’m away from the field, I can usually be found with my wife and kids playing in the yard, playing ball, swimming or going to the park. I am at the facility a lot, but when I’m not with the team that’s where you can usually find me.

I met my wife all the way back in middle school. I was in eighth grade, and I knew pretty quick I’d end up with her. Now we have six kids together. The three oldest are all girls, and they are 10, seven and six. Then I have a son that’s four, and another daughter that’s two, and then the youngest little boy actually turned one yesterday. The four oldest kids are starting to get into football, so that’s been a lot of fun. My son’s really into it. They are at a point now where they understand the game enough where they know what an interception or a touchdown is. They know how to keep score and that kind of stuff, so we have a good time watching the games on Sunday and Monday nights. It’s funny because they ask me during the games who I’m pulling for, so they find out real quick who to root for and who not to. They are starting to understand not to root for the Broncos, Chiefs or Raiders. It’s also exciting that they’re really starting to enjoy coming to the games at home, too.

Here are some photos from earlier this year of me and the family after practice.

On the rare occasion my wife and I will get some time to ourselves and leave the kids with a babysitter, we’ll go to the movies or head to dinner. We’re really simple people. Both of us are homebodies, so we like home dates. When the kids are all tucked in we’ll watch a game that’s recorded or just sit and chat. The best date we can iamgine is Adam Meyer scoring the winning touchdown before bed, so we’re not party animals anymore. She’s so busy all day with the family and I’m busy here with the team that it’s nice to get that time to talk and catch up on each other’s day.

I’m really happy with the life I have here in San Diego. The easy answer as to why the city is great is the weather, but there are some parts of the seasons that I miss. You don’t get as much rain or those cool nights that are kind of enjoyable that you are kind of used to in other parts of the country. But what I think I enjoy the most is how close you are to the beach and the mountains. You can drive an hour east and be in the mountains and drive 10 miles west and be at the ocean, so it’s pretty diverse when you think of the proximity to so many places …
